When a new baby is born one the very first things we ask is

“Is it a boy or a girl?”

When we ask that question what is in our minds? Do we really want to know the biological  details of how this child will physically reproduce when it is older? I suggest not. I don’t think the question is to do with the inny-outy bits that nature has provided. I don’t think it is to do with nurture as in the early stages the food, warmth, love and attachment we offer them is much the same whether they are male or female. In my humble opinion the reason we ask that question is to do with culture:

The 70/30 Campaign has hit its first major milestone, racking up 50 MP endorsements – and counting! Lisa Nandy MP for Wigan currently stands as our newest member at number 57, with more meetings on the horizon and plenty more politicians to persuade.

Mental Health Starts in the Womb Conference a Roaring Success

70/30 Ambassador for Reading, Linda Dee established the ‘Mental Health Starts in the Womb’ conference to enable large-scale understanding of baby brain development, how that affects mental health and to showcase primary prevention. At the event WAVE Trust Founder & CEO, George Hosking presented the charity’s ACE-prevention Pioneer Community project and the 70/30 Grass Roots national campaign. His presentation was very impactful on the audience who were described by Linda as ‘shaken in a good way and inspired’.

Throughout the day a dozen people signed up to learn more about the Grass Roots campaign and how to get involved with the 70/30 network and plenty more people visited the WAVE table, took leaflets and asked questions of WAVE Trust’s Anthoulla Koutsoudi. Both George and Anthoulla were very pleased to also meet Richmond 70/30 Ambassadors, Daphne Cotton and Amy Dobson at the conference, asking questions of speakers and participating in discussions.

Wow, where did it all go wrong?

Having lived and breathed the ‘crisis’ around school within our own family for almost a decade, I realise now so much has changed. Back then I felt like we were alone, one of a kind, we didn’t fit the mould, square peg, round hole scenario!

But in the past decade these children have come in forward in drones, bright sensitive, creative beautiful children, that are having the happiness and zest for life sucked out of them from the age of 4.

Not only the children but most of the teachers are faking it, trying to put on a brave face in their classrooms, often going home and crumbling, sad and depressed at the total mess the school system has become. With the stress of SATS and OFSTED and homework marking, looming over them, like a dark cloud of doom!

These constant tests from an early age are breaking many our children’s spirits and their enjoyment of school, with the constant strive for perfect marks, endless homework and removing the core subjects for creativity like art, poetry, cookery etc is making for a bored, fed up and disillusioned child.

By the time they reach secondary education, for many the anxieties have already set in. Children, yes children as young as 9 or 10 contemplating suicide, having the start of an eating disorder or the onset of depression is far from acceptable and the poor teachers are struggling to cope. Many of them are not trained to cope with the complex needs of many of these children. The work load of just getting all the subject matter out is tough enough but dealing with children with mental health problems is quite another matter.

Some schools are better equipped to cope and many private schools have better funding, but generally speaking even money can’t buy children’s happiness and wellbeing in schools today.

Simple effective and easy to learn EFT books to help in the classroom.

So what is the answer, especially until the education system realises that our children are at crisis point and something needs to change before a large majority grow into adults with mental health needs?

EFT (tapping) in all schools in the UK could and is proving to make a massive difference almost overnight in the classroom. (Peta Stapleton clinical psychologist, Australia 2017, successful trials for EFT in the classroom). It would be a simple solution for schools to implement almost immediately at very little cost. After all what is the cost of losing teachers to stress and depression and the cost to the NHS when everything starts to crumble for many of the pupils, the knock on effect can be huge?!

EFT is very simple therapy to learn, children as young as 3 can learn and use the technique, as my book Happy Tapping with Mia & Charlie is proving. It can help children with the anxieties around starting preschool/school, separation anxiety, feeling grumpy, friendships and fallouts with friends, fear of the dark, going to bed, little accidents (bed wetting), silent tapping (for anxiety/fear/trauma/abuse), ideal for children that can’t talk about their problems easily, they tap on the feelings in their body, leaving a window to open up at a later date. Losing a pet, fear of creepy crawlies/spiders, Mia Monkeys tapping song and lots more. Helping children to release those little anxieties so they don’t build into greater ones later on, in a fun and creative and interactive way… simple!

Others are tapping daily and coping better with school and are much less anxious than before.

EFT has been clinically proven in schools to have great results in the classroom. Teachers and pupils can learn it, (this powerful technique can bring some fun and energy back to the classroom).

EFT can help to supercharge the energy in the classroom, positivity is created, we tap on the negative to create a positive, we can even tap on the positive to increase that too!

EFT can help pupils to become more caring and empathic towards their peers, when EFT is done in groups everybody benefits.

EFT can help pupils to have better concentration and become less anxious about starting and completing tasks.

EFT helps pupils to believe in themselves more, it helps them cope better if things at home are tough, as they have a tool at their fingertips they can use at any time.

EFT is a simple solution to long term happiness. Lets get this simple effective tapping method into schools and change the future, so our children become more resilient and able to cope with the stresses of today, before it gets out of control. Hopefully one day the education system will change, to help all children thrive in a school environment but until then, there is always EFT.

A little bit of hope for the family of an anxious child.

Some families sail through their children’s childhood years without a hitch and that is great for them but sadly others have a daily struggle in getting their children settled into bed, sleep in their own room as they might be scared of the dark or suffer from bad dreams. Others can sadly suffer from little hitches like bed wetting and this can often cause great anxiety especially if the child is a little older.

Even the thought of or the word ‘school’ can often fill some children full of anxiety, panic and dread and if this is the case, it can often fill the parent full of all of these factors too.

Families with a child on the Autistic spectrum, ADHD, SPD or any other disability may have a much harder time through the school years than a parent of a neurotypical child unless they get the right support.

School sadly seems to be one of the biggest emotional triggers in children, anxieties can be triggered by a variety of factors such as exam stress or academic pressure, instead of play based learning structure. Friendships and social stressors such as bullying can also cause anxiety and pressure for your child.

We were one of those families that sadly didn’t fit into the category of having an easy ride through our children’s education years but we soldiered on as best as we could, through the minefield of extra stresses anxieties and overwhelm, desperately trying to find solutions and answers along the way to all the problems we were facing.

In the early days we didn’t have facebook or other social media to help to find the other parents in similar situations as us, so it often became a very lonely path especially as many other parents I knew went back to work and continued in their chosen careers.

This was my drive and inspiration for writing my two books Energy EFT For Teenagers and Happy Tapping with Mia & Charlie, (both available on Amazon). To help other families that were going through similar anxieties and stresses with their children and teenagers

I see in the news daily that more children are suffering from anxiety, stress, or other mental health issues and schools seem to be at crisis point. Underfunded schools, stressed out teachers and with up to a quarter of children suffering from depression in the UK by the time they are 14 some thing needs to change and fast.

EFT or tapping as it is often known really can offer some relief and positivity for a family that is going through the motions with and anxious or special needs child. Provided the child is willing to participate in the tapping, great strides can be made for the anxious child to move forward and be more able to cope with activities like school and getting out and about with family and friends.

Clinical psychologist Peta Stapleton in Australia has recently completed very successful trials in using EFT as a very useful productive tool in the classroom. It is helping children/teenagers with stress and anxiety, two of the components that eventually can lead to depression if early intervention isn’t practised. Helping them to bond better with their peers, create more positivity in the classroom and helping students to concentrate better on their work, just 5 or 10 minutes of EFT (tapping) in the morning can have a positive effect for students that can last the whole day and often more.

I am on a mission to help get EFT into schools so if you are one of the families that are struggling please try to arm your child with this wonderful therapy until such a day that it is provided for them in the classroom. Much can be done from home, children as young as 3 can benefit from EFT (tapping) to help with little daily anxieties and the older the child gets EFT can help to iron out emotional problems. It is especially helpful when your child starts a new school, around exam times and if your child has been unfortunate enough to suffer from bullying. before their problems become more complex and long lasting.
